Join us for an engaging session on the fundamentals and evolving role of Intellectual Property (IP) in today’s.   fast-changing business and technology landscape. We’ll begin with an overview of key IP concepts—patents, designs, trademarks, and copyrights—and how they support business growth. 

The panel will then dive into strategies for managing IP throughout the product lifecycle to protect innovations  and expand business opportunities. Going beyond the basics, panelists will highlight how IP is adapting to rapid technological change, particularly AI and other emerging innovations.

David B. Hoppe

Managing Partner, Gamma Law

David B. Hoppe is the founder and managing partner of Gamma Law.  Mr. Hoppe is an experienced international transactional lawyer and a recognized authority on emerging legal issues in high-growth media/technology sectors, including video games and esports, blockchain and digital assets, VR/AR/XR, and digital media/entertainment.
 
Mr. Hoppe is a frequent speaker in the United States and internationally on cutting-edge legal topics and has been quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Bloomberg Law, ABC News, and CNBC. He is an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law, teaching a course he developed on practical skills in technology and media law.

Miku Mehta

Partner, Procopio

Mr. Mehta is Partner and US Patent Attorney at the Silicon Valley office of Procopio. In 2023 he was named to the IAM Strategy 300 list which recognizes attorneys who bring value to their clients in building strategic patent portfolios. Mr. Mehta graduated with a J.D., Law from George Mason University and a B.S., Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.

Mai Miyaoka

Sr. Director, NEDO/ Ex-JPO Principal Patent Examiner

Mai Miyaoka is the Senior Director of the NEDO Representative Office in Silicon Valley. Prior to her current role, she served as a principal patent examiner and administrative judge at the Japan Patent Office (JPO) for10 years, specializing in biotechnologies, food sciences, and medicines. Leveraging her deep expertise in these fields and examination practices, Mai contributed to capacity building for patent examiners in developing countries and helped shape the global Intellectual Property (IP) network through JPO training programs. She is also engaged in multilateral negotiations at the World Intellectual Property Organization and World Trade Organization, and leads DE&I initiatives as the first team leader at the JPO.

Mai holds a bachelor’s degree in Biophysics and Biochemistry from the University of Tokyo and a master’s degree in Medical Sciences from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, University of Tokyo.

Takayuki Ueda

Head of Legal, Orange Inc.

Takayuki Ueda is Head of Legal at Orange Inc., a startup providing a global digital manga platform. With over 10 years of experience, he has advised both private and public companies, particularly supporting startups and cross-border matters. Since joining Orange in 2024, he has contributed to its international growth and legal strategy. He is a qualified attorney in Japan and holds an LL.M. from UC Berkeley, and is also CIPP/US certified.

Research Analyst, Intralink Group

Sachi Sawamura is a GTM consultant with 20 years of technology product marketing experience at leading Silicon Valley companies including Adobe, Nutanix, Symantec, and TIBCO. She currently supports Intralink’s corporate clients in driving open innovation initiatives through data-driven insights and collaborative business development. Sachi holds dual M.S. degrees from Indiana University Bloomington and an MBA from the University of Oregon.
